LEAP is not a formal organization. We're a group of concerned DC neighbors, organizing informally, no dues, no board, just people paying attention.

Listen. Engage. Advocate. Protect.

LEAP is a resource for DC residents who want real eyes and ears on their Advisory Neighborhood Commissions.

Why This Matters

Your ANC decides more than you think.

ANC Commissioners weigh in on zoning, liquor licenses, development, street and public-space changes, and neighborhood safety, and their recommendations carry real weight with city agencies. It's also often the first rung on the ladder to higher office. Lately, more neighbors are noticing commissions move projects forward with little real community input, then point to that vote as if it reflected broad neighborhood support. LEAP exists so residents have a simple way to watch, document, and speak up.

01. Listen

Become a Listener.

Listeners tune into their ANC's virtual meetings and report back. Meetings can run up to four hours, and commissioners often control the platform, muting attendees, hiding the participant list, or blocking chat and questions. Hot-button items tend to land at the end of long agendas, after people have dropped off. Listeners watch for this and document it, so no vote gets waved through unnoticed.

03. Protect

Volunteer and support candidates.

Candidates need more than encouragement, they need people who can help with petitions, outreach, design, note-taking, or just showing up. If you've done this before, or want to learn, there's a role for you.
